DIY Project: Build a Multi-Purpose Garden Stand

Written by Creative Deck & Vinyl Products | Dec 13, 2019 7:47:12 PM

This easy-to-build stand can do double or triple duty around your backyard. With a plastic or terra cotta plant saucer placed on top, it can be used as a birdbath or even a Zen sand garden.

While tall plants such as ferns or small palm trees would be too top-heavy for this stand, cascading plants such as geraniums, spider plants or certain types of ivies are perfectly suited for it. Here are the materials list, cut list and tools you'll need for a successful build.

Materials

  • (2) 2 x 4 x 8' YellaWood® brand pressure treated pine
  • 1/8" hardboard scrap at least 2 1/2" wide by 18" long
  • (6) 1/4 x 4 1/2" galvanized lag bolts and washers
  • 3" deck screws
  • Waterproof wood glue

Cut List

  • A. (3) 1 1/2 x 3 x 11"
  • B. (3) 1 1/2 x 3 x 18"
  • C. (3) 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 18"
  • D. (3) 1 1/2 x 3 x 10"
  • E. (3) 1/8 x 3/4 x 18" (1/8" hardboard)
